For me its a comfort food. Although I dont prefer deep fried food and try to avoid cooking them as much as possible, manchurian always managed to change my mind. Combined with my love for manchurian and little persuasion from my hubby(which was unnecessary;) I made Baby Corn Manchurian which I actually brought to make Baby Corn Masala... And it turned out just yummmyyyyyyyy....
Ingredients:
10-12 Baby Corns
3-4 tbsp Flour/maida
1 tbsp Cornflour
1 tsp Dry Red Chilli powder (Adjust acc to taste)
1 inch Ginger, chopped finely
3-4 flakes Garlic, chopped finely
3-4 spring onions, diced
1 small Green Capsicum/Bell pepper,diced
2-3 Green chillies, chopped (Adjust acc to taste)
3 tbsp Tomato Sauce/Ketchup
1 tbsp Soya Sauce
2 tbsp Coriander Leaves,finely chopped
Oil for deep frying
Salt to taste
Crisp 'n Crunchy Baby Corn Manchurian
Method:
In a pan take little oil and fry chopped garlic, chillies and ginger.
To this add Capsicum and saute it for 1-2 minutes.
Add Spring Onions, Coriander leaves,tomato sauce and soyasauce(if you want it to be more spicier add chilli sauce)
Cut Baby Corns length wise and keep aside.
Make a little thick batter with maida, cornflour, chilli powder, salt with water.
Coat the baby corn with the batter and then deep fry at medium flame till they turns golden brown.
Drain them in paper towel to remove excess oil.
Add the fried babycorns with the sauce you have prepared and mix well.
Garnish them with chopped coriander leaves and greens of spring onion and serve hot.
Final Verdict:
Baby Corn Manchurian turned out much better than my expectation. It was crisp, crunchy, saucy, spicy and delicious...Mama mia... Me n my hubby felt that we should have brought another pack of baby corns:( May be next time we will:)
Hehehe....I am planning to make chinese food for dinner tonight!!! I bought caulifower though, to make gobi manchurian, Had I known, I would have picked up some corn too!!!

What do you personally recommend though ?

Also I did not read the usage of the maida/flour in the recipe.

ReplyDeletesorry, i was away on holiday. just saw ur comment. yes, ajinomoto does add more flavour to chinese food. u can add a small pinch of ajinomoto to base sauce. but i have read somewhere that its not good for health. so i use it in moderation and not very often.
i have made changes to the recipe instruction. thanks for pointing it out. u add maida with cornflour to make a thick batter.
do try this sometime. mancurian is a fav dish with my family n i hope enjoy it as much as we do:)

thank u smriti. manchurians served in hotels have little crunch to them. if u really like crunchy manchurians then i would recommend u to do these:
1. add little more of corn flour for teh dipping batter as corn flour gives crunchiness to the manchurians when fried.
2. add fried manchurians to base sauce just before serving.

ReplyDeleteglad to know u enjoyed the manchurian. this recipe is for dry manchurian. if u want to serve it with gravy with fried rice or plain steamed reice u can follw this recipe where i have posted a recipe for garlic sauce. make dry baby corn as instructed and serve it with this garlic gravy. do let me know how u like it.
